Digital Marketing Tactics Small Businesses Can Implement Now

The Internet has become the go-to option when we need to learn information, and as a business, you want to be the answer to someone’s question. However, the Internet is also a competitive place, with every other business working hard to get themselves noticed.

Luckily, it doesn’t take much time to get started with online marketing. Even just a few minutes a day can help to set your business up for long-term success. Here are 3 simple things you can start doing today that will pay off for years to come.

1. Social Media Consistency

The first thing you’ll want to look at is how you’re using social media. Social media is one of the best tools available to small businesses for two primary reasons.

It’s Free to Use

For starters, it’s entirely free to use. While there are ways you can spend money on it to boost your results, it isn’t absolutely necessary – all you need to start is some free time.

Incredible Reach

Second, it allows you to potentially reach millions of people, all with a few clicks of a button. Never before in history has it been so easy for small businesses to reach so many people in the span a few seconds.

To start, make sure you have accounts on the major social media networks like Facebook and LinkedIn. Then, once you have those set up, the key is to use them regularly. Some things you can do are:

  • Post updates about your business, such as new products or current promotions
  • Answer customer questions or address concerns
  • Share valuable information related to your niche
  • Share your latest blog post

Make sure all your social media is consistent with the rest of your brand. Use the same logo that you use on your website (Canva is a great logo designing tool if you’re in need), use the same tone of voice, and use the same color scheme. When you look at your social accounts and website side by side, it should be obvious that they are from the same business.

So remember, when it comes to social media, keep it consistent – both in how often you use it, and what it looks like.

2. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Next, you’ll want to look at your SEO practices. There’s a lot that goes into a good SEO strategy, but one thing you can start looking at now is your backlinks. Backlinks are other websites that link back to your own, and search engines love to see this. The more backlinks you have, and the more reputable sites they come from, the better your website will do in the search results.

One easy way to get backlinks if you’re a local business is through online business directories. For example, you can claim your business on Google’s My Business, which will not only give you a strong link, but can help drive a lot of traffic to your site. After that, you’ll want to find other reputable sites within your niche and try to get a backlink from them. SEMrush is a great tool for finding these sites and to learn what your competitors are doing. Once you have a list of sites, try pitching blog articles they might like and include a link back to your own site within it.

Think about local or regional publications that offer free directory listings and make sure your Chamber of Commerce listing is up to date. It all helps!

3. Secret Shop Yourself

Finally, the last thing you can do is secret shop yourself. This means pretending you are a customer and going through the entire sales process from start to finish. Many business owners overlook this aspect and are unaware of a problem within their sales pipeline. By going through this process, you can learn what works and what doesn’t, and then make adjustments to improve. We recommend doing this once a quarter at least so you’re always on top of how well your sales process is working.

Small Habits Now Can Pay Off Later

Digital marketing isn’t something you can do in a day. It’s something you need to build up over time, generating a reputation for your business online. But if you dedicate a few minutes each day, you’ll eventually start to see the results. Use the list above to start making some changes this week, and set your business up for long-term success.
